Between Holidays

Thanksgiving has come and gone. It was a nice small celebration this year at Marie’s house. My house is ready for Christmas. I have a tree in the man-cave that is a little outdoorsy and my Texas tree in the dining room. I am starting a new tree in our bedroom that consists of ornaments that represent our childhoods. It’s a little bare but I am excited to collect ornaments for it. It should be fun! We have few gifts left to get and I am back in my office working on my next project.

Amber and Chris’s wedding is coming up in January and I am working out cupcake stand designs for 250 cupcakes. I am excited to do this for them. It is something new for me and I can’t wait to share the finished project when I am done. That reminds me, I still haven’t found a dress for the wedding!

My office is piled high with new supplies and ideas I have had over the past few months. I kind of organized it when I got back after Ashley and Joshua’s wedding. Now it is a mess. I had picked up some Alexander Henry fabric there at Gibson’s in Weatherford, so I want to make myself a couple of skirts for the holidays. I am in love with his fabric designs. They are kind of a retro in style and have a little funk to them. If you are looking for something a little different, check out his fabrics.

I spend part of my time in the house and part in the garage working with glass. Right now, I am working on adhesives for the glass. You have your usual came or foil methods for stained glass, but I am looking for something stronger and that will set up quickly. A lot of research is being done right now. You have glass adhesive that I use in small projects and jewelry. But I need stronger! Local glass company suggested that I use UV adhesive. I will be ordering that next and practice on a few pieces.

In the house I go from working with vinyl on my Silhouette to fabric in my guest room. Marie is going to be a grandmother in January and there are few projects for the baby I want to do. I also have ornament ideas and a pile of wood plates, trays and boards on my floor. And somewhere on my work table is antique lace that is over 100 years old. Not to mention, I have a pile of pillow forms in my guest room too that need to be done. Oh, and the glass that is on my other table and in my garage and the windows I got from Marie.

As soon as I can post what has been done I will. But I don’t want to spoil any presents for anyone before Christmas. What projects do y’all have going on right now?

Something Borrowed

I love crafts.  Any type of crafts.  Sewing is one I wish I did better and had more time to do.  As I mentioned in my last post, Miss O taught me to sew.  I inherited quite a bit of Miss O’s hand work pieces.  I also had a few pieces of beautiful handwork from my husband’s grandmothers.  They were just packed in a drawer sitting there.  I would take them out and sometimes use them in the house but really I didn’t get to enjoy the beautiful pieces.

So my beautiful Tennessse was getting married last March and wanted something to walk through going down the aisle.  I told her I could make curtains that she could hang to walk through.  I had pinned these beautiful curtains and I wanted to make them.

So first I laid out all the linens I had collected over the years.   I needed a few pieces to pull the 2 panels together.  So shopping I went.  I collected some ole hankies and some newer ones to make it coheisive.  The hardest part was cutting up the linens that the woman had worked so hard on.  I cut longer pieces in half and put one on each panel of the curtain.

The only thing I added after laying out the delicate linens was some fringe.  Oh how I love ribbon and gorgeous dangling ribbon is at the top of my list of must haves.  So I scrounged through my ribbon collection and here ya go.

Curtains hung
Finished patch work curtains hung. I love the fringe and lace tabs.

Now I use these curtains in my bedroom.

I love when I can repurpose items and make something!
